If you’ve followed me for any amount of time, you know that I love taking pictures of flowers. I’m not great at taking care of flowers, which is a bit unfortunate, but so it goes. My friends make jokes that I’ll end up doing the same thing with my future kid (using him or her as a photo prop). NOT FUNNY, guys.
Anyway, I really love fresh bouquets. They’ve always cheered me up, and it’s a perfect way to make any room of the house feel brighter and more welcoming. But once you’ve spent the money on a bouquet, you might as well use it for some photos, right?!
I am not a photography pro — just a gal who loves bouquets and pictures and often combines the two. But I am not a beauty pageant queen, and I don’t want to pose like I’ve just received a prestigious award. I first started using bouquets in my photos a long time ago — basically, anytime I got flowers from Vagner, I’d take a picture with them. The result was often boring.
See the above. It’s not a bad picture, but there’s nothing special about it. You can’t see all of the roses, and the picture honestly didn’t even do this beautiful bouquet justice. Compare that to this picture from 2016, which is around the time I started trying to improve the quality of my feed.
Same concept, but executed in a much cleaner and aesthetically pleasing way! It’s definitely been a work-in-progress, but I now use bouquets like a pro and take pictures with flowers with no trouble. Here are some tips.
1. Don’t Be Afraid To Look Silly
Taking pictures in public can be embarrassing, but only if you make it embarrassing. If I walk into a coffee shop with a bouquet in my hands, I may get some looks from confused strangers, but at the end of the day, I also get photos like this. Experiment and try different things!
2. Use The Same Bouquet For Different Shots
Good flowers are expensive, so if you want to use them to create content, you better get as much as you can out of it! This gorgeous bouquet was from my friends at Posies Flower Truck, and I knew I’d have to get creative to justify the cost (although the florals are worth every penny). I took three pictures around the flower truck, used the garden roses for a sponsored post and even used the petals once the flowers wilted! Get creative.
3. If All Else Fails, Stick ‘Em In The Front Seat
Emily Gemma is one of the most popular fashion bloggers on Instagram, and she uses the hashtag #FrontSeatSituation all the time. I think it’s such a cute idea, and it’s not surprising that other people have started to snap pictures of their front seats after seeing hers! I think this is probably the easiest way to incorporate flowers. You literally don’t even have to leave your house, and it ends up looking effortless. What are your tips + tricks for flowers? I’m all ears!
Ayana, you a seriously, the cutest and such an inspiration to me. Truly. Random question here: did you have to practice taking pictures and posing, or are you simply comfortable in front of the camera? I know it’s social media, but you look great in every single photo, like all of them! I don’t like taking pictures because I personally don’t think I look good in any of them; but my friends and SO want to take them, so I suck it up and take them. Any advice?
Ah, thank you so much Grace!! Honestly, I take A MILLION pictures before I post! I definitely have days/moments where I look super awkward and hate it. I think my best advice is to "fake it till you make it" and try to pretend the camera isn’t there. Also, try not force yourself to take pictures. My husband hates taking pictures, and even though he’s gotten better over the years, I try not to push his limits, haha. Thank you again for the sweet words!
