So this post may be a bit longer than most of my blogs, but I’ve got a lot to say now that the secret is out! The last few weeks have been some of the most exciting and challenging of my entire life. I plan to do a first trimester recap once I’m officially in my second trimester, but I’ll give you a sneak peek: It’s been hard. I have so many friends who love being pregnant and feel better than ever, but unfortunately, that’s not been my experience. That’s totally okay because this babe will be worth it, but hopefully that explains my absence from the blog! Onto the fun stuff: We’re having a baby! I have so much information to share that I figured I’d structure this post like an FAQ with some of the most common questions I’ve gotten.
How far along are you?
I’m 10ish weeks and due December 28, 2019!
How did you decide when to announce?
We always said we’d wait until 13 or 14 weeks to share our pregnancy with the world. Here’s why we did it early:
- I found out I was pregnant ridiculously early. Many women don’t realize they’re expecting until 6-8 weeks, but I was 3 weeks and 2 days when I got my first faint positive test. Because I’ve known so long, it’s been hard to keep it a secret!
- We talked to my OB and she told us that the chances of anything going wrong after hearing a strong heartbeat are very low. There’s always a worst-case scenario, but we’re optimistic since our little bean looked great at our last ultrasound.
How do you feel?
I ran out of a restaurant on Saturday to throw up in the parking lot, if that gives you an idea. 😉 I wish I could say that I feel that pregnancy glow I keep hearing about — maybe in the second trimester! Thankfully, I work from home and set my own hours, which has made it easy for me to pace myself and take breaks.
How did you know that you were ready?
The short answer: We didn’t. A longer response: We first thought about trying for kids in mid-2017, and then our lives pretty much fell apart. I was laid off, had a mental breakdown, Vagner decided to leave his job, and we made the decision to move home to Tampa. Since then, our lives have turned around, and we started to seriously talk about getting pregnant at the beginning of 2019. I still didn’t feel ready, but I talked to some friends who were parents and learned that you never feel ready for such a huge life change. Once we realized we both wanted to have a baby and felt stable enough to do so, things happened very quickly!
Did your families freak out?
Funny that you asked — if you know me, you know that I love capturing special moments, so of course I filmed everyone’s reaction to the news!
Thank you so much to all of those who have left such sweet comments and messages. We are so excited for this next chapter, and it truly feels like the best is yet to come.
